Set and Accomplish Weight Loss Resolutions this New Year | South Ogden, UT | Timeless Med Spa

How to finally achieve your Weight Loss Resolutions

Every year we set New Year’s Resolutions and, quite often, we fail to accomplish them.

We resolve to save more money, get out of debt, get more organized, beat addictions and, of course, we vow to exercise more and lose weight. In fact, according to USA.gov, the most popular New Year’s Resolution is Lose Weight, followed by Volunteer More and Quit Smoking.

Who hasn’t made weight loss resolutions at least once, if not every year? Every January gym memberships are purchased and plans made to work off holiday pounds. However, by March, how many have fallen off the wagon! The gyms become less busy, and many who were determined to stick to a strict fad diet have given up.

So, how can you keep your weight loss resolutions this year?

Be accountable

For many, accountability equals success. Keeping and turning in a daily food log and attending weekly weigh-ins with a weight loss counselor can help keep you motivated to stay on track. You are more likely to make good choices, when someone else is checking up on you.

Don’t try the newest fad diet

Fad diets are fads for a reason! Just as the life of the fad is short, so will be your weight loss. Sure, fad diets can work, but only for a short time. Many fad diets are not maintainable and too restricting. Even if you are successful, the weight will most likely creep right back when you return to your regular diet. It is important to develop a healthy lifestyle that you can maintain with exercise and moderation.

Exercise is only 20%

According to the CDC, adults should try to get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week. Exercise is great for your physical and mental health, especially for cardiovascular health and depression. Unfortunately, without making changes to your diet, exercise cannot make a big impact on weight loss. Only when coupled with a reduced calorie diet can exercise help increase weight loss. The key is in what and how much you eat.

See a certified physician

It is important to be monitored by a physician when reducing your calories. Just like with any medical problem, you should find a specialist to service your needs. A physician that is board certified in Obesity Medicine is going to be your best choice for healthy, efficient weight loss.

Following these guidelines can help you be successful this new year. This can be the year you finally lose the weight and keep it off!
